Attaching the Arrowhead to the Arrow Shaft

  1. Loop the sinew around the bottom of the arrowhead and tie a square knot at the bottom of the arrowhead leaving about 12 inches of sinew on one side of the square knot.

  2. Take the long end of the sinew, and wrap it from the bottom of the arrowhead to one of the slots in the arrowhead and then to the bottom of the arrowhead on the oposite side of the slot as shown in the first picture below. Continue this wrap around the arrowhead 5 times as shown in the second picture.

  3. Wrap the long side of the sinew half way around the shaft along the bottom of the arrowhead. Repeat step 2 except end the wrap at the slot in the arrowhead as shown in the second picture below.

  4. Wrap the long side of the sinew from one slot of the arrowhead to the other slot of the arrowhead. Continue this wrap around the arrowhead 8 times as shown in the second picture below.


  5. Take the short end of the sinew and tape it to the arrowhead as shown in the left picture below. Wrap the long end of the sinew around the short side of the sinew down the shaft, as shown in the second picture below.

  6. Put the long end of the sinew through the loop of the short side of the sinew as shown in the first picture below. Gently hold the long side of the sinew while pulling the short side of the sinew. This will pull the long side of the sinew under itself up the shaft.

  7. Continue to pull the short side of the sinew until it is no longer underneath the long side of the sinew. Cut the ends of the sinew with scissors.

    Fletching the Arrow

    Required Parts

    • arrow shaft with double-sided Bohning fletch tape for feather placement
    • 3 feathers
    1. 3 strips of red tape are attached at the end of the arrow shaft. Peel the red plastic backing off of the double-sided sticky tape on one of the strips of tape.


    2. Place the front of the feather at the beginning of the tape on the arrow shaft and press the feather to the shaft on top of the tape.

    3. Repeat step 1 and 2 for each feather. Make sure that each feather starts at the beginning of each piece of tape.
    4. To secure the feathers to the shaft, press the base of each feather to the shaft.

    Applying Ranks and Award Stickers on the Arrow

    Required Parts

    Each vinyl strips has a sticky side covered by a waxy paper backing. To apply a sticker to the arrow, peel off the waxy paper backing and apply the sticker to the arrow. Start the vinyl strips about 2 inches from the sinew that is holding the arrowhead to the arrow shaft. Place the vinyl strips 1/4 of an inch apart in the order shown in the following list:

    • 1 orange 1/2-inch wide strip for the Tiger Badge
    • 1 blue 1/2-inch wide strip for the Bobcat Badge
    • 1 red 1/2-inch wide strip for the Wolf Badge
    • 1 gold 1/4-inch wide gold strip for the Wolf Badge Gold Arrow Points
    • Up to 4 silver 1/4-inch wide silver strips for the Wolf Badge Silver Arrow Points
    • 1 green 1/2-inch wide strip for the Bear Badge
    • 1 gold 1/4-inch wide gold strip for the Bear Badge Gold Arrow Points
    • Up to 4 silver 1/4-inch wide silver strips for the Bear Badge Silver Arrow Points
    • 1 brown 1/2-inch wide strip for the Webelos Badge
    • 1 white 1/2-inch wide strip for the Readyman Activity Badge
    • 1 purple 1/2-inch wide strip for the Citizen Activity Badge
    • 1 black 1/2-inch wide strip for the Fitness Activity Badge
    • Up to 5 tan 1/4-inch wide strips for each Activity Badge for the Arrow-of-Light Honor
    • 1 yellow 1-inch wide strip for the Arrow-of-Light Honor
